Brent Byrd hasn't added a story.
Dear Family, and Friends:
My husband and I are by our very nature private individuals. Which by definition, makes this process exceedingly difficult, not to mention scary, for the both of us, (i.e., Making our personal lives public). However, as our salutation indicates, you are most certainly our family and friends, and as such, that provides us with some degree of comfort regarding what we intend to share with you all today.
As many of you are already aware, Brent & I have been in a relationship which began on, September 28th, 2006, & were married on March 28th, 2010. While my memory informs me that I explained to him my desire to have a child on our 2nd date all those many years ago, I would almost be willing to wager that I actually did so on our 1st. Which by most standards, probably isn't a fantastic rule-of-thumb for a 1st date. But, such was/is my determination to bring life into this world.
For almost 4 years now, we've attempted every reproductive method known to nature, spirituality, as well as modern science. We've attempted the process naturally, & additionally with the long-term use of a medication called, Clomid, as well as most recently, with our first round of IVF, (i.e., In Vitro Fertilization), in October of 2013. All to no avail. Quite simply, all of our reproductive capabilities are 100% in order; however, I do not posses the capacity to effectively transport my eggs from point A, to point B, & therein lies the problem.
Our doctor believes us to be prime candidates for a successful, full-term, IVF birth, & envisions no reason whatsoever why the procedure will not be effective; however, birth is a miracle, & never a given; therefore, there is no rational explanation as to why our 1st attempt was unsuccessful, other than the fact that it simply wasn't meant to be. However, statistically speaking, there is a higher rate-of-success with subsequent attempts.
The IVF process is exceedingly expensive, with literally 100's of injectable & oral medications required, triweekly doctor visits to the hospital, egg retrievals, blood work, & so on, & insurance companies do not cover such procedures. We were fortunate enough to fund our first attempt; however, with our next attempt scheduled for approximately, March 19th, 2014, not to mention the cost of operating our businesses, the time off required for bed rest, etc., we have been contemplating ideas on how to make this upcoming procedure less painful for us economically. At the urging of one of our good friends, we were directed to the idea of fundraising.
In the most direct terms, we are asking you, our family & friends, to literally join us in our journey. To essentially become part of the birth of our child/children. While, as a rule, it is obviously difficult to ask people for their help, it is the foolish person who believes they can walk the path of life alone. We felt the love & warmth you all provided us with last year, & it gave us strength. We're simply asking that you share more of the love that you have, for a truly noble cause. And, for the record, when we are successful, it is my desire to donate my 2 unfertilized eggs to a needy couple, so we too know & understand the meaning of giving. We hope you do as well.
Hopeful parents,
Mr. & Mrs. Brent A. & Amber L. Byrd
