Michael is in need of a liver transplant. He was diagnosed with non-alcohol induced End Stage Liver disease with Hepatic Encephalopathy and given two years to live in April 2012. The transplant hospital requires a deposit of $3000.00 to be paid before they will put him on the transplant list. This does not include housing expenses that will be needed once he is listed as he will have to temporarily relocate to the Charleston area, 4hrs away from home. He must stay within 50 miles of the transplant hospital once listed. Travel expenses are beginning to mount as several trips are needed prior to listing which include hotel stays and gas to get there. Michael is permanently disabled and his wife is his full time caretaker, neither are able to work leaving the family with no income. Disability has been applied for but he has been declined twice already. It is currently in appeal...
Newlyweds do not plan for something like this to happen so quickly. Till death do us part wasn't part of the short term plan. Needless to say they have found themselves in a position where they unfortunately have to ask for help and completely depend on the generosity of others. Any money raised on this page goes directly to the hospital and transplant expenses. Please feel free to visit his Facebook Page to see his updates and how he is doing right now.

The following is an approximate list of future expenses:

**Please understand, the financial adviser has said not to depend on Medicaid as they have been known to drop people at any time.

The estimated cost for transplant at MUSC is approximately $250,000. This is estimated and only covers the actual transplant. Hospital says are not included in this number but will be required. ICU for three days after transplant and regular stay from three weeks to two months depending on how his body accepts the new liver.

Medicaid will only pay for four prescriptions per month. If coverage is lost all drug costs are out of pocket.
Xifaxin: 550mg 2x per day, one month supply $1500+
Lactulose: 40mil, one month supply $50
Lasix: 20mg, one month supply $50
Omeprazole DR: 20mg, one month supply $200+
Prograf: 1mg, one month supply $764
Cellcept:one month supply $1153
Predinisone: one month supply $53
Acyclovir: one month supply $4
Valcyte: one month supply $2710.
Clotrimazole Troche: one month supply $135

Estimated cost of temporary housing required by MUSC: $2400++
Estimated costs for food and gas while living in Charleston: $400
Estimated Co-pays if insured: $300
Required amount that MUST be in an account with MUSC prior to being listed: $3000
**All above estimates have been provided by Charles Watts, our financial advisor at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Current Monthly Expenses: $2500++

We are anticipating having to set a goal for a very large amount of money. If Michael were to live to 60 after transplant anticipated costs for prescriptions relating to transplant alone would be $480,000. Hopefully this gives a better idea on the insurmountable task he has in front of him. This is all very overwhelming but we know that with your help we can make it.
