A little bit more about Thunder...
Thunder was saved by Lucky Dog Rescue after he found himself at a high-kill shelter where he was going to be euthanized! When he arrived at the shelter, it was known that he probably had some vision problems, but we didn't know the extent until he was taken to an eye specialist to be evaluated. Sadly, we were told that he is almost completely blind in one eye and only has partial use of this other eye.
He is currently being boarded at our vet in Chicago, IL and we are in DESPERATE need of either a foster OR adoptive home for him that is experienced (or is willing to learn!) how to work with a special needs dog.
Thunder is a mellow, sweet snugly 5-year old, 60-pound, male, glossy black and white Lab mix looking for a loving guardian. Poor Thunder is mostly blind! He was rescued from the pound in Gary, Indiana. He has a bump on his head and an injury to one of his rear legs. It is guessed that he was once hit by a car. Thunder's vision is very minimal. He is almost 100% blind in one eye but has minimal sight in the other. They eye specialist believes that he had distemper as a puppy that caused scarring to his corneas. She believes that he has about 15% vision in one eye and about 6% vision in the other. Since he is almost blind, it is not surprising that he gets easily startled by someone sneaking up on him. But if you talk to him in a squeaky voice and give him a treat, he will let you do anything to him! He loves to play fetch. He will listen for the ball to bounce and go in that direction. He is also quite the lap dog and loves to cuddle.
He is full of tail wags and kisses for the people that he loves. He knows the command sit and does so automatically when he smalls a treat or hears the crinkle of a treat bag. He is very food-motivated and takes treats gently. He also enjoys the company of other dogs although he may bump into them because of his vision issues. He is looking for a quiet home where someone can keep him on a solid routine. He is good on a leash and rides well in the car. He is crate-trained and housebroken when familiar with his surroundings.
Thunder is up-to-date on all vaccinations, is heartworm tested and on preventative, neutered and micro-chipped. His adoption donation of $200 helps benefit the rescued dogs of Lucky Dog Rescue. Thank you in advance to all those who are able to help by donating!
