My name is Alycia, I am 22 years old and I am writing this post for you to read because I have been granted the academic opportunity of a lifetime that now depends on the generosity of others to assist me in living my dream of improving the health of others.

As a fourth year undergraduate student undertaking a double Bachelor degree in Science (biomedical) and Psychology at Victoria University in Melbourne I have been nominated to represent Australia, my university and community as a member of the International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP) Delegation for Medicine which is to be held in the United States of America throughout June and July this year. If I make it there I will have the great privilege to not only meet and observe the World’s best scientists and researchers at the National Institute of Health but I will also gain invaluable experience motivating me to continue to strive and build upon their work in medical research to achieve a healthier Australian population.

ISLP nominates only exceptional college and university students from all around the World to be a part of this experiential educational and life changing program and it so prestige that I can proudly say as few as thirty students across the globe have been selected.

This wonderful opportunity has arisen for me through my membership to the Golden Key Academic Honour Society which was granted due to my achievement of the very best of marks in competition with the entire student body at Victoria University.

Whist I have overcome several academic hurdles to reach this opportunity, I have unfortunately now reached a challenge of a different sort with my participation in the program depending on my best efforts and the kindness of others to overcome one last financial barrier. I am hoping to raise $8,000 in sponsorships to cover the expense of tuition at America’s National Research Agency and my travel to and from the program. I am investing every dollar of my own that I can to secure this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and am working as much as possible but will not be able to meet this requirement in the limited time frame given the decree of student/university life where part-time jobs reign and tuition fees accumulate faster than you can pay them off, with my current HECS student loan approaching $25,000.

I am appealing to your kindness and hope you may consider assisting me with part of my costs as my tuition must be payed no later than April 25, 2013. I would also appreciate any advice you may be able to offer as those with diverse knowledge and expertise across many fields including healthcare, business development, management and marketing domains that I am unfamiliar with will be invaluable to help successfully reach my sponsorship target. Your support for my sponsorship request would be truly and greatly appreciated. I can provide some additional information about the ISPL that may help answer any further questions you may have and help you to make a decision. I can be contacted on 0422 629 104 for any further information relating to the program or my studies and am more than happy to meet with you to discuss my sponsorship further.

As I’m sure is important to your organisation, the ISLP Administration office can and is willing to work with sponsors on additional public relations efforts and can be contacted on +1.703.584.9532 or via e-mail at admissions@scholarlaureate.org.

I hope I have persuaded you to agree that this is an amazing opportunity and is guaranteed to be a powerful experience, enabling me to interact with many influential scientists and researchers whom most of us only read about in the papers or see on the news.

Thank you for your support!
