To Cooper Hawk Supporter, First and for most on behalf of the Cooper Athletic Program we would like to extend our gratitude in your continued support for our athletic programs. You’ve heard the statement that says, “It takes a community or a village to raise a child.” No truer words have ever been spoken and that is what this letter is all about. The Cooper Football Program is a dedicated group of people within our community working together to help raise our youth. You may ask what is the Cooper Football Program. Who are these people? Why should I help them, and lastly why should I donate my funds. Our program is unique in the way that it has a strong commitment to the youth within the program. They are people first and athletes second. Our program is not unlike other high school boosters in how they help the program raise funds to help buy equipment and gear. The uniqueness or differences are the Cooper Football Boosters know a lot about the many challenges they have just dealing with everyday life, and how many of the kids in the program live. That is why the coaching staff was carefully selected to not only be coaches but people of integrity and sound character. Many times the coaches have to deal with life issues off the field for a young man experiencing life-changing events. Our coaches take on the role as mentor or a person that a young man can talk to or confide in to help with a problem that they can’t get at home or school. Football is just a game to some, but for many of these kids football may be the only lesson in life that can prepare them of the challenges of everyday life. Football may be the only avenue that these kids can find to help make the right decisions. We all know life is a hard game and with out the right tools or coaching/mentorship they can make bad choices that last for the rest of their lives. Here are just a few examples of the work that the Cooper Football Boosters. Through-out the football season they provide a spaghetti meal for the team the night before a game to ensure that they have a good nutritious meal they need to play with the energy needed in an energy demanding sport. This also serves as an opportunity to bond as a team while also using the time to learn proper eating etiquettes. Since our football team consists of players from 9 different cities, transportation is an issue; once a child gets to school there is no opportunity for the players to go home before games on game day. Therefore the boosters also provide a meal on game days so that the kids don’t have an empty stomach on game day. For many of our players they only get 2 meals a day and these opportunities allow for players to all be as equals during the season. The devotion it takes to make sure this is done is enormous and it is usually the same volunteers that are helping out. Many times the boosters take out of there own pockets to make up the difference. With the school budget cuts that have occurred it makes it tough for students to participate in sports in school due to the high registration fee and lack of money on the team budget. Another example The Cooper Football Boosters effort is this year was a 17% increase of participation there was a need for new Equipment. The players needed new uniforms, helmets and shoulder pads. The booster wrote a check to cover the cost of new jersey’s for the team. These are just a few examples of the many things that the Cooper Football Boosters do to reach our goal to touch these young players’ lives. If the goal is to keep our youth on the right path we need your help. Become a sponsor, become a volunteer and make a difference in a young person’s life. The next young adult could be your son, your nephew, your daughter, your grandson, or your neighbor. Let’s help them walk out the door each day and be ready to take on the world. Successes in our football players require heart, pride, and teamwork. Success in life requires the same. Like our Head Coach Willie Howard says to the players, “If we each do a little, then know one has to do a lot.”
