Ashley James hasn't added a story.
On October 23rd 2018, Zachary was feeling ill and made an appointment to see his doctor. They did routine testing and blood work and would call back with results later that week. Well after an hour of being home he received a call from his doctor urging him to get to the hospital and that they would have an operating room prepped for him. Little did we know he would need a chest catheter put in and an immediate blood transfusion. When he woke up he found out he was diagnosed with end stage Kidney Disease. He remained at the Rock Island Trinity for two weeks, where he would start dialysis. After coming home Zachary's life had been flipped upside down. He would need dialysis 3 times a week and watch everything that he consumes. On days that he goes in for dialysis he spends 4 hours there, he tries to sleep, but he usually spends it dealing with intense nausea. He has been in and out of the emergency room various times due to complications with his blood pressure and his catheter. He most recently spent the night at Trinity trying to get his blood pressure under control. This has been an uphill battle due to allergic reactions to medication. Unfortunately we have had no family matches and Zachary will be continuing dialysis. So on October 15th Zach will be going to Iowa City to have a permanent fistula put into his right forearm. The fistula will replace the need for his chest catheter that has an increased risk of infections to his heart. This is a major surgery in which they will reroute his arm arteries and veins. Zach is only 19 and just recently graduated from high school. He was working, but had to leave due to his health. He lives with his parents, his father is the sole provider, and his mother has Multiple Sclerosis. Due to increased medication cost, hospital visits, work leave, and travel money is tight. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the right kidney to come along whether that is a living donor or a cadaver. We have created this account to assist in the upcoming procedures and future medical bills that he will incur. We thank you for anything you can give whether that is a monetary donation, prayers, good vibes, and maybe a kidney. Hopefully with all the support of our friends, family, and community we can come out on top of this. Any leftover funds we might have we would like to donate to another family that also needs help and support.
If you or a loved one has ever thought about being an organ donor and have blood type A- or O- please consider being tested to be a match for Zach. You can click on the link below to sign up.
