Savannah is wonderfully sweet a four month old Chocolate Labrador mix. She was scheduled for transport on Friday May 10th to Massachusetts and was all ready to go after having been fostered for over 8 weeks. 24 hours prior to transport she was rushed to Wateree Animal Hospital of Camden bleeding profusely from the mouth. Savannah had found a bungee cord that was attached to the fence that had fallen loose from the tarp it was supposed to be securing. She found what she thought was a wonderful tug-o-war toy. As she tugged and pulled it snapped back and the metal 'S' hook lodged itself to the roof of her mouth, piercing through the soft palate and into the hard palate, narrowly missing the entrance to her esoughagus. In that respect she was very, very lucky. Volunteers rushed Savannah to the animal hospital where they immediately started stabilizing her and prepared for surgery. She was sedated and the 'S' hook and remaining rubber from the bungee cord was removed thanks to the diligent care of Dr. Andrew Lavasser at 7pm. She recovered from anesthesia uneventfully and was given I.V. anitbiotics and antiinflammatories. The initial bill was significantly discounted at a grand total of $200 (two hundred dollars), not including her antibiotic prescription and pain medications. She will need a follow up visit after her medications are finished as long as her condition stays stable. She is now on a soft food diet for the next 14 days and must takes medications every 6 hours. She is now wagging her tail and very happy to be alive. The vet said that if it were not for the quick response time of the volunteers Savannah would not have made it. Dr. Lavasser feels confident that she should be ready for transport north by the end of the month as long as infection doesn't set in and no other complications arise. All in all this disaster should cost $330 if not more. Please consider helping this sweet girl with her medical bills. Dog4U, Inc. currently owes over $7,000 to the vet and they were kind enough to extend credit for Savannah short term but this bill must be paid immediately. Donations can be made directly to Wateree Animal Hospital by calling (803)432-9084 and asking to make a payment towards Savannah on the Dog4U, Inc. account. Each animal that has significant additional costs lessens the number of animals we are able to save throughout the year. Dog4U, Inc. is a volunteer 501 c 3 non-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible. If you can't donate please consider sharing for this sweet girl! Thank you!
