My name is Kelly Karius. I've been a private social worker for most of my career. In 2000 I was hired by 20 sets of parents about a teacher who was mistreating the students in his classroom. The next year was spent trying to bring attention to this issue, but nothing was really resolved. The teacher ended up going to another school. That summer I had a client who was diagnosed with PTSD because of bullying. I had a letter in hand from a psychiatrist saying something had to be done about bullying in this community. So I submitted a proposal to do a peer mediation program in the schools. My offer resulted in me being banned from all of the schools in my hometown, dealing with an Ethics investigation, and a whole lot of bad press. At the end of this I sued the director of education. Then I started thinking about what we are going to do about bullying. I wrote the no such thing as a bully system and I launched the moment of kindness foundation. Kindness is the opposite of bullying and we get more of that on which we focus. Along the way I created the kindness car. In the picture you see the green car, people sign up with a marker to pledge kindness. It's time to take the kindness on the road, so I am buying this camper van and turning it into the #kindnesscamper.
