A week ago we were the Brady bunch. Shawn had 4 boys when we met 1 of which he was raising alone. I had 2 boys and a girl I was raising alone. He was my knight in shining armor protecting me and my kids and loving me more than any woman could ask for. His health had steadily been declining and as he felt worse we bickered over what I thought was him being a sissy over his "head aches". Tuesday when he collapsed in my kitchen and I took him to the ER we assumed it was related to his diabetes or hypertension. We had no idea headed to the ER that our lives were about to be forever changed. First the cat scan checking for a concussion showed a "suspect" mass, he was admitted the next day MRI which revealed a glioma (cancer tumor of the brain) Wednesday night he was taken by ambulance transfer to LSU Shreveport. More MRI's confirmed first diagnosis. We could tell it was bad when the first hospital staff started giving us those looks, the ones that say you poor people with their eyes. Thursday 9-11 the neurosurgeon came in to discuss Friday surgery we just kept thinking 4 days ago we were a normal family. I was tasked with telling our children Friday night that Shawn was going to have a surgery on his brain. When he is released the daily trips 4 hours round trip begin for radiation for the next several weeks. See the tumor had fused deep in his brain meaning only 60% could be removed with surgery. This tumor. Will continue to grow back but at this time it is low grade meaning slow growth rate. I am the only one working a new job as we just moved a year ago and have no family near. Gas this week alone has cost $350 and I don't know how we are going to afford these bills. Shawn is so loving right before surgery his only concern was if I was gonna be ok.
