On December 16, 1993 Naval Weapons Station Police Officer Frank Wilkinson was struck and killed by an intoxicated driver while assisting a Charleston County Sheriff’s Deputy on Dorchester Road by Hunley Naval Housing.  The twentieth anniversary of his death has come and gone.

In January of this year, to commemorate his death, a military police officer attached to the Naval Weapons Station spent three hundred dollars of his own funds to place a plaque and stone on Wilkinson Way.  Unfortunately, this stone was placed in a distressed area that is being further destroyed by off roading motorist.

Other officer and myself are attempting to raise funds to fix and landscape this area so that it may be properly dedicated to the memory of Officer Wilkinson during National Police Week in May.  We are asking the police officers of our department, officers of other departments, and anyone in the community that is willing to donate funds to please do so. Any funds that are not used after the landscaping is completed will be donated to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

The stone pictured is how the memorial currently looks.
