Help Jack get a Service Dog to help them with their invisible disability!

The 'What'

I was diagnosed with CFS, an invisible disability that basically makes you feel as if you constantly have a hangover in varying degrees of terrible, when I was 18. The obnoxious part of it is that doctors don't agree on its causes or prognosis, and there is little to no treatment available. That's where a Service Dog would come in.

The 'Why'

Having a service dog would mean more independance and more scope to take care of myself, mediating how much my disability varies from day to day.  On bad days, he could do things I can't, and on good days I can 'outsource' all the tiny things that would otherwise cost me and cause bad days. As an added bonus, having a service dog would make my disability 'visible' meaning I could avoid some of the more obnoxious microaggressions (such as never getting a seat on the bus!).

The 'How'

Of course, there's a caveat. From start to finish, a professional Service Dog will cost over $6000. This includes:

  • Adoption costs from a local rescue
  • Puppy assessment
  • Vaccinations
  • 4-Week-Intensive boarding
  • Weekly training classes
  • Certification
  • Basic service gear
  • Add to that the daily upkeep costs associated with any dog

I've applied to a charity that will hopefully help me with $2k of the 6 [Edit: I got turned down, because my trainer is not a non-profit. Sadly, all the non-profits the charity supports buy bred puppies, and I want to rescue a pup rather than pay $2k to a breeder before any training even begins]. I've been hunting down cheap dog supplies with every possible Groupon. I've been working my butt off the past couple of months to try and raise the rest of that cost, but I can't work enough to make the $4k by myself - I need help with the final 2k.

It's really scary asking for help with something that means so much for me, but if you can afford anything - even if it's only sharing this page - that would mean the world. Thank you!
