I've been convicted of failing to stop for an emergency vehicle in downtown Toronto this past June while I was riding my bike back in June 2013.  The Justice was nice enough to give me 6 months to come up with the money to pay the fine.  However, I'm currently unemployed right now even though I'm actively looking for work and planning to go back to school in September, and therefore, do not know how I will pay for this fine.  Days after being stopped by the police officer back in June 2013, I wrote a blog post about the whole incident.  You can read the post here: qt1nart.blogspot.ca/2013/06/no-more-english.html ...

I was given 2 tickets at the time with a total fine of about $1,000.  One was for failing to stop for an emergency vehicle and the other was careless driving.  I fought both charges in court without legal representation back in June.  The careless driving charge was withdrawn by the prosecutor after the officer took the stand but they wanted a conviction on the other charge which the Justice found me guilty of.  Even though the officer totally lied parts of his story on the stand, I was taken to task by the prosecutor when I took the stand.  And when I had asked for video evidence before my trial, the officer claimed that his dash cam didn't capture the violation so he didn't bother to submit it.  I tried to argue that the dash cam would have captured how far the ambulance was away from the intersection when he made his U-turn to flag me down, but it was inadmissible.  The fact that I felt I was unfairly treated was also inabmissible in the court's view so my witness wasn't even allowed to testify on my behalf.  I could try to appeal but rather than going through the headache of the legal system and conceding that I was at fault, I would rather pay the fine and get in over with.

The total fine I have to pay is $615 by Dec. 5th, 2014.  And unable to come up with this money on my own, I decided to create this campaign to fundraise in order to pay it off.  Along with all the fees associated with using Fundrazr, I've set a goal of $700 to raise by Nov. 15th, 2014.  I'm hoping that 70 people can donate $10 towards my campaign and I would reach my goal.  I'm hoping you can help me in reaching that goal by donating what you can to the cause.  If I am unable to pay the fine, there will be further consequences down the road that the courts can take.  Thank you for taking to time to read this and if you decide to donate, I really appreciate your contribution.

Here is the letter I received from the Ontario Court of Justice as proof that this is real:

PS.  Now that I've reached my goal, any more contributions made will go towards taking care of my dog, Bella.  She's overdue for a visit to the vet and needs her shots.  Plus, there are certain expenses to having and maintaining a pet.  Please feel free to contribute if you think you can help this secondary cause.  It would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
