Violet is a 6 month old German Shepherd who was brought in as a stray to Joliet Animal Control. When she came in she was covered in so much mud that it showed up in the xray. They had to bath her and retake the images!

She had no outward signs of injury but could not walk. She was taken to the Vet where an x-ray was performed and where she currently is staying. The xray showed not breaks or fractions and her inability to walk has not been explained.

She has been put on steriods and is showing some signs of improvement as she attempts to up right herself and with a friction mat can now stand. She also needs to be checked to make sure it is not a  fibrocartilaginous embolism, or FCE for short, which is a blockage in a blood vessel in the spinal cord. It’s often referred to as a spinal cord stroke. This can happen with a young dog when it plays really rough and is caused by jumping or landing awkwardly. Sometimes vigorous exercise can trigger it. Dog fights, rough play, and any sort of accidental trauma can also lead to an FCE.

Money needs to be raised so that Violet can have an MRI and nuerological testing done to rule out a soft tissue spinal injury or to determine if this is nuerological in nature.

Please help! At 6 months old she has so much life yet to live! Violet has a special needs foster home who is ready to take her. They specialize in working with non ambulitory pets. It is likely we will also needs to purchase Violet a set of wheels that will fit her and assist her is getting around by using her front legs only.
