Aimee Martin hasn't added a story.
This is Eric and Mary Jane. If you have driven around Dowlen Road and Academy within the past five months or so, you may have seen him and his pup. Eric and Mary Jane are homeless as you may have assumed from their rough appearance. Like many homeless people, he has a pretty rough past and present. He is 33 years old and lives under bridges or anywhere dry. I saw him today and offered to buy him lunch. We talked for awhile and he told me about how the police in Beaumont are pretty rough on him and his pup. They have arrested him for solicitation, for looking like he was asking for money, and put Mary Jane in an animal shelter. Luckily, he was able to get her out. Anyway Eric wants to work. He was even recently promised a painting job, but that fell through. If you want to give him money, he'll take it. If you want to feed them, they'll accept it. But, what he really wants is a paying job and a second chance. If anyone knows of an appropriate job for him I'm sure he will be more than happy to do it. You can find him wandering around Dowlen Road and they are currently sleeping under the 105 bridge/overpass. If you can't help with a job maybe you can say a little prayer for them and then thank God that you are blessed with friends and family who didn't give up on you, who wouldn't let you fail. I know I will.
This excerpt was taken from Aaron Jacobson, who originally posted their story on facebook. Please help us raise a little money to get Eric and Mary Jane off the streets.
My name is Aimee and I live in Orange, but I am available during the day to go to Beaumont in the next month or so to hunt him down and present him with donations from this fundraiser. If I am unable to find him, I will find a way to refund any money given on this site. Our objective is to help him raise money to get him somewhere comfortable to sleep, clean up his appearance, and help him look for a promising job to support himself and Mary Jane.
I can personally attest to the fact Beaumont police are rough on him. I saw him at the intersection of I-10/Dowlen Road and an officer was frisking him, right there on the side of the road before escorting him off the curb. Let's pitch in and help him wherever we can. I don't know if we will make this goal or not but Fundrazr made me set one up. Any and all money collected will go to him (with the exception of the 5% transaction fee and 2.9%+ .30c processing fee the site charges for use of Fundrazr that automatically comes out before it's collected), even if it doesn't reach the goal or goes over the goal. If he cannot be found, as I mentioned before, I will find a way to refund any given (minus any processing fees from the website) or donate to a worthy cause.
Thanks for your consideration!
Aimee
