Aimee Lanouette hasn't added a story.
October of 2011 I got a call at 10 pm I never expected to get, Chula Vista police department calling me to come get my 'nephew,' they said to come get Jay because his dad and beat him up and he had a living will from his dad that if anything happened, J was to live with me. I never wanted children of my own and now I had a 16 year old kid that had needs and wants. We called his mother the next day but she had left J 3 years earlier and he didn't want to go live with her and he had no other family out here so J stayed with me and my roommate. We made changes and things began to work out. I Got a better job, we moved into a 3 bedroom apartment and thing started to get better then last year in his junior year of high school he broke his leg there went his football, cheerleading and track career for his senior year, along with the injury came hospital bills.. Keep in mind all I had was temporary guardianship over him because his mother wouldn't give me temporary custody and I was unable provide health insurance for him, sure state insurance covered part of his care but we still have $10,000 plus in hospital bills and therapy I am having to pay on. Not once did his mother say I'm flying out there (her son was beat up by her ex-husband- really can't come out and see if he is okay!!!) or let me see what I can help with, not even offer any kind of guidance. Again we managed. but here we are his senior year and I am unable to afforded any of his senior expenses- prom, year book, cap and gown, senior trip..NOTHING!! I don't come from a family of money and most of my savings has had to go to living expenses, so we reaching out to ask for help.. Senior package which includes prom ticket, cap and gown and year book runs about $650, and when his dad was arrested they were evicted him from his apartment and J had 3 school books in there for a grand total of $300, and if he doesn't pay for the books he doesn't graduate. This kid is one of the most amazing things that could ever happen to me - I have seen this little boy of 3 years old grow into a man. He has plans of going to community college in the fall and then off to a university once he can save up the money - last year were able to finally get his birth certificate (again his mother wouldn't release ANYTHING to make his or my life easier) so he was able to get an id card so he can get a job then he broke his leg and was in a walking cast for 6 months, and with that he was unable to save any money for these senior adventures. He is a good kid and I just want the best for him but sadly I am unable to provide the best- he has already missed out on so many adventures due to lack of money, and I don't want him to miss out on any of these once in a lifetime experiences you get being a senior in high school. Anything you can help with is much appreciated!!! I'm not good at asking for help but I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!! Thank you for taking the time to read our story!!God Bless!!!
