I am a Certified Massage Therapist who specializes in working on fat bodies in a non-judgmental and loving environment. I need your support to get to a lymph related massage cupping class will train me to help my clients address edema (swelling). More ...

Hi my name is Deb Malkin and I'm a Certified Massage Therapist working in the Bay Area. As a size positive massage therapist, I have specific experience with helping people with bigger bodies receive massage comfortably. Whether it's using a lower set table, extra bolsters, or moving bigger limbs with confidence, all my work is done with a non-judgmental and loving attitude. Every-body can receive the benefits of massage.

During my massage studies, I discovered that Massage Cupping is a powerful and effective tool for myofascial release on larger bodies because you can achieve separation of the layers of tissue using suction much better than with other MFR techniques like skin rolling. I've since gone on to become a Certified Massage Cupping Practitioner and I've helped my clients combat pain that has gone untouched by other bodywork methods. While working with Massage Cupping aka vacuum-therapy I realized that it could be equally effective in managing edema.

There is a specific lymph related massage cupping course being offered in Sedona, AZ, taught by Beth-ellen Zang, founder of the Sedona College of Natural Health. She and I have spoken, and this small hands-on class will give me the tools to specifically address the concerns of my clients with lower leg edema (swelling). Lower leg edema can cause issues with mobility, pain and can be a precursor to cellulitis which is a very serious medical condition.

There are no massage or bodywork classes that that specifically focus on the issues facing fat people. In all the bodywork education I have engaged in, I've often been the lone voice asking "how would this benefit a fat client?" or I spend time explaining how a certain move or stroke would need to be altered to best work on a larger massage recipient. I am dedicated to helping my clients and community find the best methods of massage that are effective and geared towards their bodies and wellbeing.

I need your help to get to this class. It's held 3 times a year in Arizona. I have the money to pay for the class but still need to cover airfare, lodging, and car rental. You can help by buying a pre-paid massage service for yourself, a friend or a stranger or just by kicking in a few dollars as a donation. Every little bit helps. You can read more about my massage practice at Radical Being Bodywork. Thank you for your support, I appreciate any and all help you can give. <3
