Kelly Nerdzilla Mendenhall hasn't added a story.
Rosebud Marie Eleanor Frances Mendenhall.
That's my white boxer's name. And she needs help.
In 2011, when I could hardly find a reason to get out of bed every day, a reason to keep going, I met Rosebud. She became my reason. This dog saved my life with love and companionship that is hard to describe. She is my emotional therapy dog, as I am a trauma survivor with PTSD. Rosebud eases that immensely.
Rosebud has had a tough time of things. I adopted her from the Humane Society in Huron Valley when she was 8 months old. She'd already had surgery to remove a non-cancerous tumor at that point, and suffered the loss of her human companion who passed away. Rosebud is also completely deaf.
In the time since she came home, Rosebud has had penumonia twice, kennel cough, bronchitis, a weird skin infection, and at one point a syncopal event where she lost consciousness and had to spend three days on a heart monitor -- thanks to the efforts of everyone who loves her, and even strangers from afar, Rosebud was able to get the care she needed and she got a clean bill of health.
I have maxed out a Care Credit credit card on Rosebud's bills from the past.
I moved to Nashville, TN from SE Michigan in July 2013 so that Rosebud and I could have a shot at a better life. Unfortunately, I was laid off from the job I moved here for due to a lack of funding. I am currently surviving on part time retail income and finishing up my term of unemployment.
And Rosebud needs help.
On Black Friday, Rosebud went to the hospital with a cough and was diagnosed with pneumonia and esophagitis. She was making a GREAT recovery.
But then...
On December 7, we spent the evening at Nashville Veterinary Emergency Service where it was discovered that Rosebud has 10-15 Struvite (non-disolvable) bladder stones.
She was unable to pee for several hours yesterday because a stone had completely blocked her urethra. They were able to push it back into the bladder to provide temporary relief.
Rosebud now needs surgery, as quickly as Monday or Tuesday, December 9 or 10. Without the surgery, her kidneys can be damaged, her bladder can be damaged, and after too long these things can become life threatening.
I was given an estimate of $2000 for the cost of surgery and hospitalization by Nashville Veterinary Emergency Service -- but they said I could expect it to be less at a non-emergency hospital.
I am looking to take Rosebud to the Countryside Animal Hospital in Mount Juliet, TN -- they come highly recommended by another boxer owner and some other locals. As soon as I am able to speak with them, I will attempt to schedule surgery and get a solid estimate on cost.
According to research I've been doing, I am looking at an average cost of $1250-1500 to get Rosebud the surgery she needs. She will also be put on a special medical diet to prevent more stones forming in the future.
Once again, Rosebud and I are calling on those we love the most to help us through this. I do not ask this lightly. I do not take your help for granted. Please, help me continue to rescue the dog that rescued me.
