Educators’ Trust India is a small-scale local charity that aims to make a real difference to the lives of children that may otherwise be forgotten. These children usually come from the neighbouring state of Karnataka with their parents who are looking for work. They live under plastic sheeting on the edge of a field and, with no birth certificates, have no entitlement to education. They are, effectively, invisible. Educators trust run two schools to cater for these marginalised children and equip them with the skills to eventually, enter main stream education. This year, thanks to Claire Raybould, a Suzuki teacher from London, the schools will run a Suzuki violin project to enrich the lives of these children.
I will be heading over to Goa, India in February to continue the Suzuki programme for 5 weeks.
