I was only 13 years old when I saw my father on his own death bed. All he wanted to do was see but he slowly began to die inside. His organs were failing, his immune system crashed, he couldn't breathe, and to top it all of he was blind. He just wanted to see our faces again but he couldn't so he had to go on a medicine called prednisone. That medicine slowly began to kill him.

It all started back in January 2011, when my dad Richard woke up feeling something in his right eye. We took him to the emergency room and they said he had pink eye. A week later he started seeing lines. Each doctor my dad saw would diagnose him with something different. 9 months later it happened to his left eye. They called it an optic stroke. Only 15% of people stroke in both eyes.

That was the beginning of the turning point that has changed our lives forever. Dad has been on more medications that has given him more problems than I can tell. Sometimes my sister and I feel cheated because he can not play basketball with us like he use to or see me sing on stage. Or even watch my little sister Ava dance. We could live with my dad not seeing. It's the other health problems that comes along with the so called stroke in his eyes. Right now we are at the end where medications can no longer help him anymore and he has a seriously damaged optic nerve in both eyes.

Many people don't know or like my dad, but the man I know is a kind and gentle human being who has made mistakes just like everyone else. This man does his best to teach us about life and what's out in the real world, but he can only teach us about what he remembers. Please help donate so my dad can receive stem cell treatment and hopefully live a happier life.
