My name is Shannon and I am afraid.

Most of my life I’ve been sick, cold or without love. When I was kitten I began to develop ear infections and later ear polyps. The itching and pain at times was unbearable and it caused my right ear to calcify into a hard mass. It changed my face forever but I’ve accepted that it makes me who I am. I come from a house of thirty cats, in a room much smaller than most bathrooms. I remember cold nights, sleeping on concrete floors and missing meals but most of the time there were no meals to be had. Night after night I was hungry and in pain, the cold at times was too much for my once thick shiny beautiful coat to protect me. Now it has become a mass of matted hair, dirty from the floor, its sheen taken from me by years of this filth and neglect.

The pain from my ears continued to intensify from the polyps, sometimes keeping me up all night, I desperately wished it would stop. I cried with the others when I was hungry, I would cower into corners when I was scared, I lay still when the pain took what happiness I had left to feel. I begged for salvation, I prayed for life to just stop; I can’t take it anymore.

My name is Shannon and I want to die.

When I felt all was lost and it seemed as if my life would finally fade away everything changed. I awoke to a firm hand grabbing me by my scruff and I was whisked away into a box. My heart raced in fear, some of the other cats were there with me, we CRIED out loud. Shortly after the same firm hand grabbed me and I was quickly rushed into a room, in there I found food and water. I ate to my belly was full and when I stopped I turned around to see the most beautiful women I had ever seen. “You’re ok now girl”, they smiled at me and said “Shannon”, “I Love it, let’s call her Shannon”. Shannon it was and I realized then that I was rescued. They even had my painful polyps removed from my ear, I felt so alive.

I soon found out what hugs and kisses were and realized my tail had a mind of its own, but I learned to chase it to keep it in line. I was warm, so warm, it felt so amazing. I heard that once you are rescued you get a Mommy and Daddy and I couldn’t wait. I waited and waited, then one day after what seemed to be forever a man and women said “She’s so beautiful”, that night they took me home. After a few weeks I learned about something I have never knew or felt before; love. My Mommy and Daddy loved me, they cared for me, brushed me, and they even wrapped me up on cold winter nights with them. I am so happy, Mommy snuggles with and I like to scratch Daddy but he knows I love him too.

My name is Shannon and I am loved

I woke a few weeks ago and suddenly found it hard to breath. I’ve been on medicine but it’s not helping, I keep getting worse and my Mom and Dad are becoming very worried. Mommy came home the other night crying and I went over to comfort her like she has done for me so many times. This is my journey, when all is as it should and love has found me cradled in its arms my life has once again changed. A polyp had begun to grow deep within my ear, reaching the back of my throat. It has grown to the point where it is very difficult for me to breath, I can barely eat, why is this happening to me? In order for me to live this polyp needs to be removed, quickly or I will die. Mommy and Daddy are doing everything they can but they are scared and so am I. Please help my Mom and Dad as the cost to save me has become so great!

My name is Shannon and I want to live.
