Every year I do the same thing over and over and over again. I chop off my hair, grow it out and chop it off again. This year, for my second time, I will be making the cut and donating my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

I have only donated my hair once before.  I still remember sitting in the chair on that day, the hairdresser asking me if I was ready.  "It's just hair" I said.  The guy sitting next to me getting a quick trim looked at me like I was crazy.

Since I can remember I have had (fairly) straight and very thick hair.  It grows fast and it's long, soft and beautiful.  I dabbled a bit in dying it when I was younger but through the years I've come to truly love my natural hair colour. At it's longest, it is a real pain to brush out and dry so it rarely ever feels the heat of a blow dryer.  Simply put, my hair is the best kind of donation out there.  Long, thick, no dyes and not blow-dried, basically, no damage.  If all it takes is a few months of annoyance to give someone such an amazing gift, why not do it?

I wish I had more time to fundraise but I simply just got sick of dealing with these long locks and booked a hair appointment on a whim.  On Thursday, March 13th 2014 I will be making the cut.  That only gives me 6 days to hit my fundraising goal although I'm hoping that I can surpass it. Not really knowing how much I will be donating, I've chosen to meet the minimum 8 inches of Pantene Beautiful Lengths donation requirements.  In turn, your monetary donations will be passed on to the Canadian Cancer Society in full!

My family has been rocked with cancer as have most in the past few decades.  I have had a Great Grandmother pass from lung cancer, a Great Aunt from throat & mouth cancer and most recently another Great Aunt from bone cancer.  My Aunt on my Mom's side thankfully is still with us and is a breast cancer survivor.  My Aunt on my Dad's side is currently undergoing treatment for squamous cell carcinoma.  All this illness in my life makes me think, if I can help by raising a little bit of money by chopping off hair that, let's face it, I am annoyed to have in the first place, why NOT give it to someone who doesn't look at it as a burden but instead a gift?

So please, donate, help me reach my goal, and surpass it so that we can find a cure and help people with cancer everywhere!
