On 16th September 2012, Ryan and I are taking part in the Great North Run, the world's largest half marathon, to raise money for a multi-sensory room for Matthew. If that isn't enough, on 3rd November 2012 we are taking part in Hell Up North - 10-12 miles of tough, hilly off-terrain running, including bogs and swamps. Matthew is our childminder Ann's amazing 7 year old son. At 8 weeks old Matty was diagnosed with Cri du chat, a rare condition caused by a missing chromosome. This means he has complex learning difficulties and significant developmental delays. Ann and her family have had many highs and lows over the years. Last August, he took his first steps just in time for his 7th birthday. He achieves his milestones in his own unique way and in his own time. At the moment his developmental age is a cheeky, funny 15 month old. Matthew has a wicked sense of humour and has an enormous amount of love to give to everyone he meets. Matthew loves attending Ysgol Y Canol school, where he uses Makaton signing to help communcate. Matthew's favourite activity at school is the multi-sensory room, which helps him to focus on colours, shapes and textures. We are running the Great North Run and Hell Up North to raise money for Matthew's bedroom to be converted to a multi-sensory room both for Matthew's enjoyment and development. Anything you are able to donate, however small, would be very much appreciated, particularly by Matthew once he is able to enjoy his multi-sensory room. Please dig deep for Matthew...
