As some of you may know, Michelle Thorne, director of the Heritage High School Patriot Players established an award last year in honor of Kate called The Kate Caruso Light the Way Award. It was presented to a senior who had demonstrated commitment to the program and the school and was always an encouragement to others. The award was a plaque and a red balloon, signifying the red balloon that broke away from the pack at Kate’s Celebration of Life and soared high in the sky. Theater has always been a very important to our family. Rick and I met in a show in 1975 and our children grew around the theater. Nick first appeared as young Patrick in Mame when he was 5 years old and Chris was his understudy (Chris was three and each performance day asked Nick if he had strep throat!!) Following in his dad's footsteps, Nick also met his lovely bride, Jenni in a show! For the past 21 years, The Patriot Players have been a constant source of joy and entertainment for our family. All four of our children were members of the Patriot Players (Hannah is currently a member) and Rick has built and designed sets for the productions for 21 years. We love theater and the Patriot Players. Kate also loved musical theater and for this reason, we would love to enhance the Kate Caruso Light the Way Award and present the selected senior(s) with a monetary gift and also raise money for drama “awards” as the needs arise over the course of each school year. This is where you all come in…On April 12th, we would like to have the Inaugural Kate Caruso Light the Way Lantern Launch. If you have seen the movie Tangled (video clip attached at end), you can see where our vision came from. Our hope is that we can all gather in the football field at Heritage and light up the sky with colorful lanterns during one of the evening rehearsals for Music Man. We are asking for a $10.00 donation for each lantern (we will also have red glow balloons for the children) where all of the money (minus the cost of the lanterns) will go into this fund to assist and honor our dedicated thespians. Imagine how beautiful and special this event would be while at the same time providing support for a worthy cause. If you live out of town and cannot be here in person, we will write your name on your lantern and launch it for you! If this is something you may be interested in, could you please check off “will attend”? That does not commit you but will give us an idea of whether or not this dream could become a reality. ! Let’s light up the sky…for Good…For Kate.
