My 4 yr old feline child, Siamon, has FHS and FIV. Due to the FHS his nerves in his back will jolt down his tail and back legs. This causes his tail to jerk around uncontrollably, which in turn drives Siamon crazy so he spins around running into things trying to bite his tail. Some cats with FHS have this happen so bad they end up getting their tails removed. Last week when I was getting burs off of him I ran my fingers down his tail and was horrified to feel that almost the entire top of his tail is NOTHING but scabs from him biting it. Because of his FIV he doesnt heal wounds fast and any infection could cause serious issues for him as he doesnt have the immune system to fight it. 

Ive made a vet appt to get him on phenobarbital which has been successful in helping cats with FHS. This affects him 24/7, all day, everyday. Sometimes he will just be exhausted and trying to sleep and the entire time his tail is flying around and I can see his back legs shaking from the nerves. It must be horrible to live like this all of the time and he's so young I really dont want this to be his entire life. So, im hopeful for the medication.

Living on disability it takes me a while to be able to save back up but I cant have my poor cat biting his tail off :<
