Samson Longtin hasn't added a story.
Samson Longtin grew up in northern Minnesota experiencing racism in many forms. As an adult, he returned to start his life there with his children. It didn’t take long before he began experiencing harassment both from members of the community and certain people working in law enforcement. Walking down the street with his son, people would drive by and yell racial slurs at them. He became fed up and decided to become active in his community, reaching out to community members and organizations in an attempt to raise awareness, gain support, and educate.
Samson was invited to speak about his experiences growing up and living there and also spoke with children in different schools and helped to organize and create the Itasca Diversity Alliance whose purpose is “b uilding communities in which people of color belong, are respected, and EVERYONE can thrive” https://www.facebook.com/ItascaDiversityAlliance/about/?entry_point=page_nav_about_item&tab=overview
As a result he started receiving treats from people in the community. Recently he received a call through Facebook from a man who threatened to drag him behind his truck. His daughter was there and heard the entire thing. This is in reference to the murder of a black man named James Byrd Jr. who was dragged 3 miles behind the truck of racist men whose body hit a culvert and he was decapitated and lost an arm.
Samson reported this to the police who conducted an investigation and decided not to press charges, though a harassment order was put in place against the caller in civil court. Samson asked for a copy of the investigation which contained over 400 pages of private Facebook messages between the caller and two of his friends who were discussing the act of dragging him behind a truck. They discussed where he worked, whose truck would be used, and one of the men offered to video tape the whole thing. They have continued to harass him with no consequences whatsoever. In an attempt to hold them accountable, he posted these conversations and spoke openly about what these men have been doing to his family who now has to live in fear. Facebook blocked Samson from using his account every time he spoke about it.
Samson is in the process of filing a harassment order on the other two men who were planning his assault and murder and is beginning to acquire legal fees. He is a hardworking father of small children and cannot afford to pay for these fees or a lawyer. Samson needs for us to stand by him and show these people and others like them that this behavior is not something we tolerate. Please consider joining our fight with racism and donating to help provide Samson with the legal help he is going to need now and in the future as things progress. The legal fees for the harassment orders are $200. He is also trying to acquire legal representation to fight the decision of the District Attorney who read through these hateful and frightening messages aimed at ending Samson’s life and decided not to prosecute.
