Veterans Care for PTSD hasn't added a story.
22 Veteran suicides a day to me is no shock, but heartbreaking.
Our American Heroes are longing for help across the country.
I've read countless suicide notes, encountered countless suffering heroes.
Read just one suicide note I read in a newsletter I received; from a Veteran to his family, which includes the fact that there is barely any help for our hero's.
"Then, the same government has turned around and abandoned me. They offer no help, and actively block the pursuit of gaining outside help via their corrupt agents at the DEA."
This one note of thousands,
"I am sorry it has come to this" A Soldier's Last Words:

"Lastly, the DEA enters the picture again as they have now managed to create such a culture of fear in the medical community that doctors are too scared to even take the necessary steps to control the symptoms."
This issue is a nationwide epidemic. 6500 suicides in 2012; the major cause? PTSD.
The solution, nationwide warm-hearted "evidence-based" care specializing in war-related PTSD.
As The National Council put it, "we need a mandate and the funding to deliver proper outreach and assessment techniques and evidence-based treatments for our veterans"
Since 2001, 2.4 million active duty and reserve military personnel were deployed to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Of this group, 30% nearly 730,000 men and women will have a mental health condition requiring treatment. Studies have shown that 18.5% of all OEF/OIF veterans have post-traumatic stress disorder, Major Depression, or both PTSD and Major Depression.
"Addressing Mental Health Needs through Evidence-Based Care numerous studies have examined what types of care work best for veterans with PTSD and Major Depression. Those treatments that have shown documented benefits are classified as “Evidence-Based” including several forms of cognitive behavioral therapy. Unfortunately, less than half of veterans needing mental health services receive any care and veterans being treated for PTSD and Major Depression are receiving Evidence Based Care only 30% of the time." Veterans Care for PTSD's major goal is to increase 30% to 100%.
"The first step to providing quality end of life care to our nation’s Veterans is to learn more about their unique needs by becoming familiar with military culture." - wehonorveterans.org
This, I have sadly spent my whole life witnessing.
One of the main reasons I want to make a difference in this specific field is from my personal experiences with my father. A strong, Army Veteran who's served 25 years. Seeing as how long he has suffered, almost committing suicide and homicide of me, my mother and brother, this same scenario that has fatally affected numerous military families, I can't imagine what other war heroes have to go through every, single, minute of the day.
I want to relieve, support and comfort, one Hero at a time.
Statistics from the National Council:
Mental Health Need of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans (2014 Projections) Prevalence Veterans PTSD only 4.7% 113,978
Major Depression Disorder (MDD) 4.7% 113,978
Co-‐morbid PTSD and MDD 9.1% 220,680
Subtotal 18.5% 448,636
Other Mental Health Disorders 11.6% 281,307
Total 30.1% 729,943
Less than 50% of returning veterans in need receive any mental health treatment. Of those receiving care, only 30% get Evidence-Based care. Veterans Care for PTSD will aim to change 30% to 100%.
Instead, the majority are getting what is called “Usual Care,” the provision of a broad set of services, only a portion of which is Evidence-Based. Not surprisingly, research has proven that Evidence-Based care is more effective than Usual Care.
"All wars are different and provide unique experiences and sometimes complications to the Veterans who served in them." - wehonorveterans.org
Our war hero's need care tailored to their psychological needs, not a "broad set of services".
How will we achieve this goal together?
The goal is to provide more evidence based personalized, care and treatment, preferably without the need of medication.
"All under the guise of a completely manufactured “overprescribing epidemic,”" - A Soldier's Last Words
“We owe it to our veterans to send a message that their lives are more important than protecting the jobs of those who failed them.” - majorityleader.gov
"Too many of our nation’s Veterans live with complicating factors such as homelessness, substance abuse, PTSD and more."
Veteran's Care for PTSD will also aim to provide more housing/shelter and more jobs for our war hero's.
"Do not allow us to become one of the 22 veterans who commit suicide daily." - Thomas Brennan, military affairs reporter; stripes.com
The VA claims it supports our Vet's, it is a proven fact that the way the VA treats our Veterans is a disgrace, and is a part of this "broad" scope, rather than personalized treatment.
“Years after major problems at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) came to light; our veterans still aren’t getting the care they need. The VA continues to have a culture of unaccountability, and our veterans are suffering the consequences." - majorityleader.gov
“Thank you for your service” is a default phrase by many. Replace it with action. Thank us by listening to us. Thank us by fighting the VA backlog that prevents us from the care we fought for. Thank us by asking the difficult questions. Make sure we are okay. Make sure we are not forgotten. Make sure we are understood." - Thomas Brennan, military affairs reporter; stripes.com
Our ultimate mission:
Exceeding the health needs of our Veteran's around the nation, climactically reducing suicide rates and helping our American Hero's to enjoy the fuller and richer lives they deserve and respectively earned.
We need to make a change, NOW.
Thank you and God bless you all for your support in this endeavor!
