Terri-Lynn Switzer hasn't added a story.
Meet Ellie, an 8-year-old maltipoo. This precious girl was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Southern California just hours before her scheduled execution. Ellie was pulled from the shelter in California and brought up to Canada by The Journey Home Dog Rescue. Ellie was then placed in one of our amazing foster homes.
Ellie arrived with severe periodontal disease and a horrible cough. Our veterinarian did a complete dental and removed 13 teeth. Ellie had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic and vomited for a couple of days. She was put on antibiotics for the cough but her condition did not improve. Ellie has endured a battery of tests, always cooperating like the brave little trooper she is. Ellie was put under anaesthetic again for a bronchoscopy, during which a scope was inserted down her throat and into her lungs. Unfortunately, the bronchoscopy did not reveal the reason for Ellie's persistent cough and, once again, she experienced two days of vomiting. We tried several different medications to relieve the congestion in Ellie's lungs, all to no avail.
On Tuesday, February 3rd Ellie became extremely lethargic and her breathing was laboured. Ellie's cough had worsened to the point where her entire little body was retching. We rushed Ellie to Lonsdale Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Cochin immediately referred her to Canada West as an emergency. Ellie remained in Critical Care for over 24 hours before returning to her foster home.
Ellie is an absolute sweetheart. She is friendly and sociable with cats, other dogs and humans of all ages. Ellie gets really excited when she sees a squirrel and actually thinks she might catch it! Ellie is extremely affectionate and loves, loves, loves to cuddle with her foster family. We are hopeful that Ellie can eventually be adopted into a loving, forever home
Our medical bills for Ellie thus far are over $3500. More diagnostic tests are required to determine the appropriate course of treatment. Any donation toward Ellie's continuing care would be greatly appreciated.
