The Cicada Collective is back in Austin to offer an Abortion Doula Training, with help from RiseUp /Levanta Texas!
An abortion doula is someone who provides emotional, physical, and informational support before during, and/or after an abortion. When an intentionally intersectional reproductive justice framework is applied to the concept of doula work, the role of an abortion doula is expanded to encompass making services accessible to people who wouldn’t otherwise have access, and understanding the politics of pregnancy and birth (along with the interactions of intersecting oppressions of race, gender, class, immigration status, sexuality, ability, language, body types, age, incarceration, and STI status).
Participants in this training will:

Be exposed to a red state and reproductive justice focused abortion doula training with an emphasis on addressing queer and trans* / gender and sexual minority populations

Learn about the different abortion procedures and the instruments involved with each procedure.

Be taught various ways to provide informational and emotional support to patients seeking care before, during, and after the procedure.

Explore how various communities might benefit from an increased competency in abortion doula skills.

Go home with resources and skills to address their community’s needs.
