Grimmy Kimmy hasn't added a story.
Storm Trooper was surrendered to us when his elderly human companion was found collapsed in an assisted living facility on March 7. 2014. It was obvious from the conditions of the apartment that no one had checked on them in a VERY long time. The man was transported to the hospital. Storm Trooper, a Yorkshire Terrier was immediately taken to the vet for masses and infection in his ears. It was reported to me by the surrendering party that she had to bathe him to remove the encrusted fecal matter that covered his body. The growths pictured below are polyps. These growths have occurred due to a bacterial infection that has gone untreated for a very long time. The inside of the ear canal is not even visible. He is estimated to be five to six years old. Other veterinary findings include a slight heart murmur, a possible thyroid condition and hair loss on his back with some scabbing possibly due to former flea bite dermatitis. He has been groomed with a close clip around his face and head to prepare him for the ear surgery he is facing. He will be on antibiotics and steroids for the next two weeks at which time he will be re checked and evaluated for surgery. Storm Trooper will require a TECA surgery to both ears. This is a Total Ear Canal Ablation to remove the polyp overgrowth. I am not a squeamish person but I could not make it through two minutes of the educational video on You Tube. The incisions will be extensive. It is very bloody and the recovery will involve a two to three day stay at the vets. Due to the pain involved, they can only do one ear at a time. There are many details regarding the situation that I am not at liberty to discuss. I have many unanswered questions and irregardless of the answers, there is no acceptable reason for an elderly human and his animal to be living in the conditions as they were described to me. Due to the unique nature of this situation, we have decided to give Storm Trooper a home here with us where he will want for nothing and never ever be neglected again. The good news is that hopes are high that we fully expect his hearing to be restored. I pray that nothing else is going on underneath these growths that has damaged the chances of that happening. We really will not know until the polyps can be removed. Please help share his story and raise the funds needed for his surgery.
