Sherry Rilatos, my mother, is one of the most thoughtful and caring people I know. After my sister was born she had to have a full hysterectomy, which eventually led to her having advanced osteoporosis. Just weeks before my planned trip to come down and visit her and the rest of my family, she tripped over something left on the floor and fell hard breaking her right humorous at the shoulder. Before this incident she had just recently recovered from breaking her foot, which thankfully we were able to avoid surgery for. Having osteoporosis is difficult enough to manage, having a disease like this makes your bones very brittle and much easier to break. My father broke his foot about 2 years ago which has left him with a constant pain and he will never walk the same again. He still tries his hardest to support his family, but living with chronic pain doesn't make working easy. She just underwent surgery 1/2/2014 for her shoulder and her insurance is making her pay 30% of everything. While that may not sound like much to many, after everything is said and done we are looking at around $20,000 or more. With both of them out of work for the winter, they are completely at a loss and have no idea how to come up with this kind of money. We really hate to ask, but we have no where else to turn. I would give them money if I had it to give but I am a full-time college student barely making ends meet myself. We really could use some help. Through it all my wonderful mother is able to smile and tell us that we can make it through this. I hope she is right.
