Hello, Friend!

I need your help and I’m not too proud to beg! It’s Summer and I’m already hard at work growing food for poor families and distributing donated produce to local pantries. But, I’m having a major cash flow crisis which has prompted this desperate appeal to my friends and community partners. Will you send a small donation to help cover some of the expenses involved in this critical work?

If I can’t raise some money in the next couple weeks, bad things are going to start happening. For example, between Mentoring Positive’s Edible Acre and the pantry gardens I maintain -- Marquette School, Schoep’s Ice Cream, Findorff Yards and the Salvation Army -- I figure we need like 100 bales of marsh hay for mulch. Well, that costs $300+ direct from the farmer and I simply haven’t got it. If I don’t raise it soon, the weeds’ll take over and that means more work and less food. Please help!

I also somehow need to raise a stake for stakes, literally! We have almost 1000 roma tomato plants ready to plant at the Edible Acre for Off the Block Salsa. Problem is, we’ve got to create a system to support them and it’s not going to be free. Tomato cages are not practical for large scale production but if we don’t rig something up much of the fruit will go to waste. We need something like 300 metal stakes and 1000 feet of cheap fencing which is like another $500 at least!

I could go on and on but I’ll just mention one last thing. Lots of surplus produce gets donated by area farmers and some of it is right out of the fields. We really need a simple cleaning tent set up at Community Action Coalition so we can clean and pack stuff. It wouldn’t cost more than $300-400 dollars but they don’t have it and neither do I. Without a way to clean and pack stuff, lots of produce just goes to waste instead of to needy local families. If you’ll help pay for the gear, I’ll get out there and do the washing up!

This is pretty much a one time request, folks. Within a month or two, Off the Block’ll finally be a regular business and have it’s own revenue. An on-going process currently underway with local funders should provide some resources for the produce distribution and pantry garden work later this year also. But, all that isn’t any help right now which is when we desperately need some cash flow.

Please send money now via PayPal if you are able -- $25, $50, $100 or anything you can spare! I will happily provide details for how all the donations are used if you’re interested. Your support will directly impact the availability of fresh, local produce for needy area families this Summer. I’ll grow, clean, and deliver literally tons to people this season if you’ll help defray some of the costs!

Please let me know if you have any questions or need any additional information. Thanks in advance for your interest and support!

Yours-

PS. Would you be willing to forward this on to others? I suspect you likely know some folks who might be interested in helping. Can you send this on to friends and family and ask for their support? Thanks in again!
