I am a creative writer, but I didn't always get the encouragement I needed to explore my imagination. Exercise provided me with that freedom to dream. Now I publish books, and I still exercise. And that's why I am running for deep. Deep is a non-profit that teaches literacy through creative writing to middle school students in Chatham County, Georgia. I now teach Creative Writing at Savannah State University, and many of my students, friends, and colleagues are deep fellows. Had I had access to such a dynamic organization I wouldn't have been chastised for being too "deep." Instead, my writing would have been celebrated, and I would have been excited about reading and writing and staying in school. So I am asking for your help. Running fostered my imagination, and so now I am using the fitness I gained to help foster the imagination of the deepkids by raising money for deep. And the faster you think I can run, the more I am asking you to give. I should be able to break 4 hours. For that, I ask for a dollar a mile ($26.20). If you want to encourage me to break 3:45, then I ask for you to consider two dollars a mile ($52.40). And if you really want to encourage me, and let me know you believe in deep, and in my ability to run as hard as I can for them, help me break 3:30 and consider three dollars a mile please($78.60). My general goal is to get 100 people to give a dollar per mile, but I think we can go a lot faster than that.
