"Without literacy skills, these kids aren't just living in poverty, they are locked in poverty."
Thank you for taking a moment to consider helping Faith achieve her new goal of visiting & volunteering at preschools in India.

Thankyou for taking a moment to consider helping Faith achieve her new goal.

Our beautiful daughter has always been focused on others in her own quiet way but for the last 18 months she has been coming out of her shell, speaking up against bullying and even doing a training course on how to care for children so she could volunteer at church. Recently she has expressed a desire to go to India on a missions trip to help out at a number of preschools giving much needed education to the poorest slum children in three cities.

The trip won’t just allow her to be a support and encouragement to these schools, but will also show her a glimpse of what poverty really looks like and how little it takes to make a massive difference in people’s lives in the third world.

Fifty per cent of children aged 6 – 18 do not go school.  Many slum dwellers are forced to work at any early age.  There is an estimated 17 million children who work.  In December 2001, a preschool was started for children living in a slum whose parents are rag pickers (sort through rubbish looking for things to sell) and daily labourers.  The students, teachers and parents of Waverley Christian College support this work covering rent, electricity, school books, uniforms and salaries.

  • Since its inception in 2001, a total of 210 children have been enrolled at the preschools.
  • More that 140 (two thirds) have gone on to study at government schools after completing preschool.
  • We have conducted micro enterprise workshops and other training in tailoring, money management to improve the economic status of the women.  Some of them have been motivated to set up small businesses selling fabric and soft toys.

THE GOAL: $3,500

This is the total personal cost to get Faith over there and accommodated. It includes travel, food and accommodation for the 15 days.

The team will be in India from Thurs 28 Nov – Thurs 12 Dec 2014,
Faith will be travelling with several teachers and a number of other students visiting slums, schools, orphanages, drug rehab facilities, markets, the Taj Mahal and The Red Fort.  Along the way, she will meet and interact with other Christians and volunteers working to help some of the poorest people in the world.

We would love to give Faith this opportunity to step way outside her comfort zone and really need your help to afford it.  Thanks for being part of her journey.
