As many of you may be already aware 2013 has been a pretty difficult year so far, not just for me but for everyone around me too. In April 2013 I suddenly took ill. I went through a considerable amount of tests and scan baffling doctors and coming up with no diagnosis. Luckily on the 5th of July they decided to undergo investigative surgery as a final resort. From this we discovered that I had adhesions attached to my bowel and appendix that had grown from having appendicitis. Adhesions are thick bands of tissue that attach to organs pulling them out of place, causing damag, drying them out, creating blockages and in some circumstances killing organs. They were cut out to the surgeons best ability and we believed that this was finally it!
Unfortunately in many cases adhesions return and now a little down the line mine sadly have and we are back to square one. Day by day they cause further damage to my bowel,stomach, gallbladder and fertility organs. When they cause regular partial obstructions I become unable to eat much and deteriorate. We have lost faith in our local hospital as they are uneducated on the problem and believe the pains and problems are unexistant and in my head. The situation is that the surgeons won't operate again to remove them, as surgery itself causes more adhesions and therefore starts a vicious cycle. My only hope now is to under go surgery that is done by a specialist I have met in London who is willing to operate using an effective barrier mechanism to prevent my chances of them returning and allow me to hopefully carry on with my life pain free from this disease! We have been told the operation may be up to 20,000 depending on how much damage there is and what all has to be removed. I am desperate to be pain free, return to work, ' and to actually start my midwifery studies! I have missed out on so much important and special occasions, holidays and just normality!
It really is hard for me to ask for such a big favour from you, especially at this time of year when I know it is tricky for everyone, but you have absolutely no idea how much this means to me.
