Hello my Name is Edd Cox, visual artist. In 1981, I created a complex of art studios in the historic Pioneer Square on the waterfront of Seattle. I renovated a 7500 sq. ft. fifth floor on the south side of a turn of the century warehouse with seven studios and a gallery. After several years of hard work the building was completely artist studios. For an amazing 30 years it was my creative world and center of the universe. A destination for every art lover and seekers of creative imagination and excitement at every open studio First Thursday Artwalk. Cafes were full, the streets vibrant with style, energy and gallery goers.

One day in December 2010, I and 120 other artists, were notified we would have to leave our studios and beloved 619 Western Building. A mega project was coming our way! We were told we had more than one year to prepare. Less than half way to that deadline we were notified to be out in 60 days. How 120 artists found new studio locations, packed up and moved out my be told by an upcoming documentary. Safe to say though, it was incredibly difficult.

I relocated my studio, Edd Cox Fine Art, in March 2011 into the neighborhood with one more option. With assistance from the Department of Transformation I could recreate a New GoldShoe Studios & Gallery. Was it a possible option, I wondered. I created the original in 1981 when I was 33 years of age. Could I push a project forward of this size at 64? If I found a great location and truly functional space, I decided, I would consider the effort. If the option elapsed I would never again be able to create a New GoldShoe Studios & Gallery.

Six months later, in August 2011, I found a space that fit my priorities. Two blocks south. After months of meditation and finishing most of my Edd Cox Fine Art studios relocation it was toward the end of January I signed a lease for the space to recreate & reinvent GoldShoe Studios & Gallery. I began work! Oil painter becomes Project Manager. With the knowledge that relocation assistance would take me half way.

Up until now it has been my solo effort in creating the 5300 sq. ft. space with code compliant plans, approval of a building permit, purchase of materials and supplies. The help of a small but eager team prepared the space and with one assistant who constructed the framing. I put my efforts into graphics, promotion, marketing, accounting and the efforts it takes to keep this magnificent project, GoldShoe Studios & Gallery, moving forward to completion.
