Liebe Familie / Freunde / Kollegen,
Ich lernte Andrias (im Folgenden A.) vor etwa 8 Jahren
während meines Urlaubs in Jeffrey`s Bay, Südafrika kennen.
Ziel näherte, ließ mich meine Zweifel in Frage stellen:
Zeitungsartikel über A. erhielt:
Er hatte seine ersten offiziellen Flugstunden erhalten.
(siehe Artikel oben)
absolviert.
Die Flugschule unterstützt A. mit kostenlosem
Theorieunterricht.
Herzlichen Dank!
UPDATE vom 13.11.14:
NO PARENTS! NO MONEY! NO FUTURE?
Read how after 8 years of commitment Andrias` dream is slowly
coming true:
Dear family / friends / collegues,
I first met Andrias 8 years ago during my holiday in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa.
At the time he was helping out at the local airfield. We got talking and I learned that he had left his home country Lesotho 2 years earlier (aged 16) and had come to South Africa to fulfill his dream of becoming a commercial pilot. Working around the hangars he had already managed to accompany some private pilots on short flights and had absolutely loved it.
What I thought at the time was: " what a sad story "....but that he would soon realize that flight training costs money and without some kind of sponsor, he would never be a pilot.
The fact that both parents and his foster care had died years ago and he was on his own, especially financially, minimized the likelyhood of his dream coming true.
I further believed that his enthusiasm wouldnt last for too long and he would give up once he had realized how much work, effort and commitment went into earning a pilots license.
The following years I kept bumping into Andrias on my anual holiday...and every time my scepticism faded a little....seeing him try so hard with so little was admirable and really made me think: He had "taught himself to fly" on a "Windows 95 flight simulator" and an old laptop someone had given him! He still jumped at any chance he got to get into a cockpit with local pilots who let him take controls more and more often.
I gave up the last of my doubts about his commitment (about 7 years after I first met Andrias), when my father forwarded me a newspaper article about him (see attached):
He is now getting his first real flight instruction on a single engine airplane for his private pilot license....His flight instructor, being sceptical, had him do most of the written exams in advance, before the first hour of actual flying....and has now passed them all.
He is getting some support by the members of the flying club, instructors offering to teach him free of charge....the costs for aircraft rental and fuel, are still beyond anything Andrias could afford.
He works hard and saves up as much money for his flight training as he can, but his daily average wage of 150 Rand (equals about 10 EUR) will not get him far.
Andrias has shown all the dedication anyone could wish for in a student pilot. I have no doubt that, with financial support, he will be able to attain a commercial pilot license and get a job flying. His school diploma, which he got in 2007(matric), would even allow for him to fly for an airline.
He started out with nothing.....yet he never complains, he is always happy to help with whatever job might get him a few cents closer to his goal, however far away it may be: He is truly committed to his dream.
Andrias is very grateful for ANY contribution you can make.
We will personally assure that EVERY CENT that you give, will go exclusively into Andrias` flight training.
THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORT ! :)
Nick
