Many of you have asked what i would like for my birthday and i really cannot think of anything I would like more than to help those in the Philippines.

As you know, parts of the Philippines have been devastated.    Edi's village has been flattened, her house was the only one of three to remain standing in her village (the one with the blue roof in the attached image taken from the news), though part of the roof has gone.  Her parents-in-law who lived next door, have lost their home as have the rest of her community. Thankfully all her friends and family have survived but daily life is now a struggle.  There is a shortage of food and although there is food available in the city, it is expensive and far to go.  Foreign money has been pledged but aid is slow to come through.

I was hoping that maybe between us, we could help raise some funds.  Maybe enough for food for the village for a day, or water for a week...  anything to make life more comfortable. A donation however big or small would be amazing.  Edi is a proud person and would certainly not want to be viewed as a charity but this a poor part of the world where construction and infastructure has let these people down.  Sadly, it is going to take years for the Philippines to get back on track and with the state of the government being what it is, one wonders where the £57m the British public have pledged will actually go.

Personally, i would rather donate directly to someone who i know will benefit from my donation.  Edi's husband was a policeman in Mamhut where for the last few years we have been sponsoring 20 children's schooling through him and he has been wonderful in organising the children, their uniform and books etc.  I have no doubt he will distribute these funds with the best intentions for their village.  They need to rebuild everything.  Homes, the school, clear wells, restore electricity, communication...  it is going to be a long process.

We are all very fortunate.  We live in a culture that fuels a desire to always want more and the best, however, we really do have the best.  The basics are what you need. Your loved ones, food and a home.  There are many children in the Philippines who have not got any of the above and need help both physically and emotionally.

So if you can spare anything, please do.

Thank you so much,

Olivia x
