Kyle Levenick hasn't added a story.
A little history:
Spajamas was found in a basement storage locker in the East Village a little over 3 and a half years ago. He was in rough shape, having no access to food or water for over a week. My wonderful friend Lauren helped him get to a vet where they administered fluids and food and petting and anything else they had available. After a few days, he was back on his feet, somewhat.
We knew something was off about him from the start: he would only hiss, and to this day that's the only sound he's ever made. He was never aggressive, just supremely anxious. All he seemed to to want to do was hide somewhere, wait for you to leave, then eat. In all the time I've had him, I've never fully petted him, only lightly touched his head a few times.
He's completely healthy physically, but something may have happened in his dehydrated state, or in his life before that. Either way, he's miserable. Flat out grumpy. Due to his age, he doesn't climb much, and his anxious keeps him from playing with toys or coming out of whatever nook he's hid himself in. I truly think a sanctuary is his best option to have any sort of happiness in life. Some place where he can be around other cats--or not--as he chooses, and where human interaction will be sparse and only in large, open spaces. He's not a cuddler, is what I'm saying.
The Good Shepherd Cat Sanctuary is doing me a tremendous solid by helping Spajamas, and I would like to give them whatever I can to make their efforts easier. To this end, I'm collecting donations of any amount, with all proceeds going to the GSCS. Anything more than the goal, $350, will go towards all the other lovely cats that live on the sanctuary grounds. Who knows, maybe if we donate TOO much, they'll just throw piles of money on the ground for the cats to roll around in. Maybe!
