My name is Julie. I am an RAF Veteran having served between 1984 and 1991.I decided to move into Civvy Street so that I could start a family. On 4th February 2013 a disc at L4/L5 tore and left me with Cauda Equina Syndrome and put me in a Wheelchair.
My name is Julie. I am an RAF Veteran having served between 1984 and 1991, when I decided to move into Civvy Street so that I could start a family.
On 4th February 2013 a disc at L4/L5 tore and left me with Cauda Equina Syndrome and this is why I need your help.
Having left Hospital in May, I applied for and was refused DLA on the grounds that on a good day I can walk 20 metres.
This doesn't account for the days I can't because of pain in my feet. I've appealed, but this takes 16 weeks min.
I need funds for legal representation if I am to take on the mighty ATOS and come away with anything.
Because I don't get DLA, I'm currently sitting in a second-hand Wheelchair that has no brakes. (Brakes are an optional extra)
I need funds to buy a decent LIGHTWEIGHT wheelchair, to allow me to get about independently and get me back to work.
I have a second-hand Mobility Scooter as I'm moving out of town and I cannot drive anymore, but I need to get about. This scooter will allow me to go the 2 miles into town and go shopping and visit people.
Again, this scooter has no handbrake, it didn't come with one and it was all I could get with the money I had at the time.
I need funds to get the Scooter into an approved dealership and get a handbrake fitted. If they can't do this, as it's a discontinued model, I will have to buy another Scooter to get me about.
I'm not at my work at the moment, so any money I have currently is to pay the rent. I have no extras for the equipment I need to live a normal life.
I am moving to a Bungalow. This is a Private Rental as the Council cannot give me Social Housing.
I have some Veterans Charities helping me with the move and the cost of this.
Any funds I have left over after Legal expenses and buying specialist equipment will go to these Charities - SSAFA, RAF Benevolent Fund and WRAC Association, who have all offered help and advice
Thanks in anticipation,
Julie
