My name is Frederico and am preparing for the biggest sport challenge of my life to help improve the lives of others. I'm willing to go the extra mile and swim for the first time 10 km in an Austrian lake on 1st August 2015  - do you want to join me?

I ask you to donate whatever sum seems appropriate and realistic to you - any support counts! My goal is to raise 7,000 Swiss Francs - or CHF 0.70 for each meter I swim in the Hallstätter See. However, the more we can raise, the better it will be for Kahawatu to reach its aim of improving the rural income and livelihood of smallholder farmers in East Africa through the power of coffee.

In Burundi, one of the poorest countries in the world, about 85% of the population depends directly on agriculture to survive and coffee accounts for 80% of all exports. However, production fluctuates dramatically from 5,000 to 38,000 tonnes each year. Major causes include a high rate of aging trees, low levels of soil fertility, lack of inputs as well as poor knowledge of modern agricultural technologies.

Kahawatu, which was founded in 2012 in Geneva, believes that an improvement of coffee productivity and quality as well as other food crops means, amongst others, a higher income for farmers, a more diversified nutrition, a better education, improved health and hygiene conditions and a reduced negative impact on the environment.

The foundation is currently partnering with 10 coffee washing stations in the sensitisation and mobilisation of smallholder farmers. One of their goals is to assist around 14,000 farmers in good agricultural practices located in 3 different provinces in the North of Burundi by 2017.

In order to help Kahwatu to continue changing the lives of thousands of farmers in Africa, I need your support! I have been doing my best in the swimming pools for over six months now, and I'm confident I can swim 10k in August - can YOU help us?
