Shannon Rosati and I are General Surgery residents at Virginia Commonwealth University. We will be traveling to Jamaica in November 2014 for a Pediatric Surgery mission trip with Children's Medical Services International Inc.

CMSI ( and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) have a long history together helping the children of Jamaica get access to medical and surgical care. Please see the CMSI website for information on the partnership and history.

In addition to bringing medical and surgical care, Shannon and I, and many of the VCU faculty, will be assisting in leaving a lasting impression on the medical community of Jamaica by teaching classes and conducting hands-on seminars. As surgical residents, we will be lecturing on topics that are important to us such as pediatric oncology, pediatric trauma, burns, and feeding disorders. If time and supplies permit, we plan to teach basic suturing classes to general practitioners and pediatricians who desire training in dealing with minor injuries.

Unfortunately for us, since CMSI is a non-profit organization run strictly by volunteers and giving 100% of donations to improving children's health, we will be paying our own way to help in this worthy cause. But that's where you come in...

Any help you can provide will go toward funding our travels to and from Jamaica and our housing while there. Any additional funds will be given to CMSI to help their cause.

Thanks for your support,

Dan Parrish
