Joshua Tudor hasn't added a story.
The purpose of this Fundrazr event is to raise the needed money to purchase a computer to run Cops Cruisin' For Cancer (CCFC). I founded CCFC in Dec 2012 and went online in June 2013. To date, I have been operating CCFC exclusively from my personal cell phone.
CCFC has grown exponentially in the past 4 months. I can no longer sustain CCFC without a computer for daily operations. CCFC operates solely on social media and donates 100% of all proceeds to IU Simon Cancer Center. Therefore, I am hoping this Fundrazr will allow me to purchase a Microsoft Surface Pro without compromising CCFC’s mission. I REFUSE to use donated money expected to go to Lung Cancer Research for this. Please help out by donating as well as forwarding this on to anyone you think can help.
The history of CCFC:
I started Cops Cruisin' For Cancer the day I lost a friend, a fellow police officer, and academy classmate to lung cancer. Sonny Miller was a police officer in Martinsville Indiana. Sonny attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy the same time I did and from day one, was having trouble with his lungs. We quickly learned from Sonny he was being treated for a deep lung infection and had been battling this for several months. Sonny fought hard, nearly getting kicked out of ILEA for his physical fitness level, and graduated as someone we all looked up too.
As the months went by, Sonny had a baby girl with his wife Amanda. Sonny never got any better. Sonny visited several hospitals and doctors who continued to treat him for various lung conditions. In late summer, Sonny learned that he had been battling Lung cancer and had a near baseball size tumor behind his lung. For several months what he thought was an infection, was this awful disease. Spirits were high and Sonny continued to fight. By late November, Sonny was in ICUice, but not giving up. Sonny had been told his type of cancer was one of only 2 types eligible for lung transplants. This hope had been dashed when he was told he was being removed from the list due to the late diagnosis and advanced stage of his cancer.
Amanda and her family had great support from their community. Friends and fellow LEO's held a benefit. Several thousand dollars were raised. The last benefit was held just days before Sonny died. I attended and got to see Sonny, not in person, but via Skype from the hospital. Cancer took Sonny at 35 years old and left his Amanda to take care of 3 children, including their infant daughter.
This is why I do what I do. It's the same reason we as police officers do what we do... to do what's right and help those who need it. We all know the difference one person can make. We can ALL be that one person.
