Ryker was born in September of 2012. We was in the NICU for a week due to problems breathing. As he was getting ready to leave the hospital Ryker was given the new born hearing test. He failed it twice but we were told that it was most likely nothing and that it was fluid in his ears from birth. So we took Ryker to Boys Town National Research Hospital and had his hearing tested. We weren't expecting anything wrong. Ryker has a hearing older sister that is only 16 months old and both of us(parents) hear. After the testing we were told that Ryker was deaf in both ears. His hearing loss is so sever that he can't hear a train, fireworks or screaming. The hospital helped us get set up with services for Ryker with a teacher of the deaf and speech services. He started wearing hearing aids when he was 2 months old. He had worn those for months and they didn't help him hear at all. We found out what caused Ryker's hearing loss is a genetic disorder called connexin 26 and 30. So,children that have connexin 26 or 30 hearing aids never will work for them only a cochlear implant surgery will allow those children to hear. So, Ryker is set to have his surgery done on both ear for July 19th at Boys Town National Research Hospital. We have moved states since we had Ryker. So to go to Boys Town which is one of the top ten in the United States is about a 6 hour drive for us one way. We have to drive up there for his surgery and come back. Then he will need to go back to be activated with his cochlear implants which will be July 31 and August 1.So July 31,2013 is the first time Ryker will hear our voices!! We are so excited!! After Ryker is activated we will be going at least every 3 months for the first year of his life or longer to Hearts for Hearing in Oklahoma City, OK to keep updating his maps (programs) for hearing. Which is a 3 hour drive one way. He will also be receiving speech therapy twice a week for years to come.We love Ryker with all of our hearts. We know that God has created him as His masterpiece and God has a great plan for his life. We are so honored to be his parents. He is a little man of joy.

We are asking you to join us on this journey to give Ryker hearing. First thing we need is prayers. We need prayers for Ryker to not get sick, for the surgery and activation to go well. That he would love sound. That he would adjust and learn quickly. God would give us insight to what Ryker needs That we would have safe travels and that our daughter would handle all of these changes well. Secondly we could use money for the medical bills, gas and lodging for us as we make these trips to Nebraska and Oklahoma.

The outcome we have been told to expect for Ryker is that years down the road he will be caught up to his peers and that he may only need signing in large noisy settings. So, that is wonderful news.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support in all forms. May Christ's blessing be upon you.
