attention. Perhaps you can assist us.
Our brother Dennis was a Viet Nam veteran. He passed away unexpectedly
on February 13, 2013. He died alone in his home of what appears to have
been a sudden cardiac arrest.
Dennis served in Army Intelligence, and was proud of our family’s military
service history. We have family members who fought in The War for
Independence, The War Between the States, WWI, WWII, The Korean
Conflict, and recent wars. Our parents are buried in the Willamette National
Cemetery in Portland. Our great, great grandfather, Nathan Huntley Edgerton,
received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his valor on the battlefield
during the Civil War, and for serving in the Honor Guard accompanying
President Lincoln’s funeral entourage.
After being honorably discharged, Dennis attended Oregon State University,
where he majored in administration, and received two bachelor’s degrees from
OSU, one for athletic administration in 1975, and another for health care
administration in 1981. While attending OSU, he served as an athletic
department intern and as an assistant coach in the women’s softball program.
From there he enrolled in public relations journalism at the University of Oregon,
served as an athletic department administrative intern, and completed his
studies in 1986. In addition, in 1988, Dennis completed his master’s degree in
sports management in a conjoint program sponsored by the U of O and the
United States Sports Academy. Dennis worked as a corporate accountant for
Levi-Strauss for many years prior to being laid off in 2009. Due to his age,
he found himself unemployable and fell on hard times.
Due to the mortuary basic charges, and our inability to pay these expenses
in full, Dennis has had to have his military funeral with full honors at the
Willamette National Memorial Cemetery in Portland, Oregon reschedule several
times. We have had some donations from family, cousins and friends to help
with the costs, but still need funds to pay the balance of the basic mortuary bill,
before his body may be released for burial. It's been two months since Dennis
passed away and we have not been able to bury him. He was a wonderful
person and a true patriot. His untimely passing should not keep him from
having a proper burial. So his family is reaching out for help from the community.
Currently we are arranging to work with veterans to help pay these basic
expenses down.
Unfortunately Dennis did not have a funeral fund set up, and at 64 he had
not thought about that. I am his sister; I have been in financial distress due
to my husband’s medical bills and 5 other funerals in the past 6 months,
including my mother-in-laws funeral and expenses. Other members of our
immediate family are struggling as the result of our poor economy. Dennis's
untimely passing came at the worst time ever, as together his family does
not have the financial resources to pay for the mortuary fees in full.
Contributions may be arranged through Abbey at Musgrove Mortuary
Their address is1152 Olive Street, Eugene, Oregon; and their phone
number is (541) 686-2818. OR through a paypal donation via ckoshka@att.net .Any contributions from the community

Thank you.
