This Songkran, we'll be heading back to the mountains to visit Supon's home village, Baan Huay Baba. Although, we've just returned from visiting the village, during our last stay we noticed the village school was in need of some new learning resources for the children.

A community of 47 Karen Hilltribe families, Baan Huay Baba is nestled in the mountains of Galyani Vadhana, the last village accessible by dirt road from Wat Chan. Up until the age of 5 children are educated in the village school, after this age the children walk 3km to school and then have to board away from their families each week, returning by foot again for the weekend.

The village believes that themselves (The Karen) and white skinned Westerners are brothers/ sisters because when their own government forgot about them, Foreigners were the people that supported them, and encouraged the country to acknowledge them as citizens. The village has always been welcoming to me, our relationship together and accepting of my colour, even if I'm still always a novelty.

We're reaching out to you, our friends, family and beyond to ask for some help. We'd love to be able to help the school teacher. A selfless lady who takes care of around 20 two- five year olds singled handedly each day. Although reluctant to say, but shyly smiles at the fact she would really appreciate and cherish some new resources for the children.

Simple things such as; colouring pens, pencils, plasticine, books, notepads, posters, puzzles, footballs, hula hoops, even flipflops for the children that turn up to school without any shoes.
