Chris (16) and Gabe (12), our 2 boys, were seriously injured in a head-on collision Oct.23 2012. We have insurance, but costs for our copays and cost shares are mounting, along with lost wages from time taken off from work to care for them and take them to many medical and therapy appointments.
The boys were airlifted to Harborview Trauma center where they spent 4 days in ICU and 9 days in the hospital. Both are still in wheelchairs and will have several more weeks in them before they can begin to stand, then walk. They were in the blue truck in the link to the initial news report: http://auburn.komonews.com/news/transportation/793653-head-crash-closes-sr-169-near-enumclaw
The boys were on the way to school and were passing another vehicle in a legal passing zone. The driver of the vehicle being passed decided to play games and sped up to match their speed, then slowed down and blocked them in when they tried to get back behind him, forcing them into a head on collision with another truck. That driver called 911 to report there had been a crash, but left the scene, The boys each gave a description of the vehicle and what happened as soon as they could talk while still in ICU. They were in separate rooms and had not seen each other. The police researched the 911 calls and found one of the people to report the accident had a truck matching the description that the boys given. The man was questioned and based on his statement and lack of witnesses the police could not charge him.
