Today I went to the thrift store looking for antique plates for Addison's mismatch tea set. While I was waiting to check out, I could not help but notice the woman and small child behind me. She had a pair of jeans and the boy had a 1/2 off shirt. After standing there for a minute or two, the boy turned to his mom and said "you don't have to buy me this shirt if you don't have enough money. I real
ly don't need another shirt. I am sorry I asked for it" -- she paused and told him that it would be okay and she would find a way to pay for it. My eyes immediately filled with tears. Here I was shopping for toys and extras for my children and she was struggling to clothe hers. I felt helpless in that moment, not knowing what to do. I found her in the parking lot and gave her all of the cash I had (only $10-- I wish now that I carried more) Her eyes swelled up and she began to tell me that I really didn't understand how much that had helped her.I told the boy that he was really sweet to his mom and he was really good in the store. (thinking of walmart or target where children (mine included) who cry because they want things) Then she asked me for a ride home. They only have one car. So they walked there. She walks to work and he walks to school. I took them home. We talked the whole way there. Her jeans were a couple of more dollars than she really had to spend and she was hoping to make up for it in tips at sonic where she works-- but wasn't sure how she was going to make up for it-- her only other pair had ripped and she desperately needed another pair. -- We take so much for granted. --- Then the icing on the cake. The message at church tonight... Praising God through service. Blessing others and providing Grace as He does us. MOVED. And blessed beyond measure.
