Join our campaign to require California drivers to give at least three feet of clearance when passing bicyclists from behind. More Californians than ever are riding bikes to work and school, especially as gas prices continue going up. Many more people want to ride their bikes but they won’t ride because they don’t feel comfortable sharing the road with motor vehicle traffic. Either they’ve known or heard about a bicyclist who was hit by a passing driver, or they’ve witnessed or experienced a frightening near miss by a driver passing too closely. Not all drivers take chances with bicyclists on purpose – they just don’t know why it’s so dangerous. Our legislation, Senate Bill 1464, will make the road safer by giving drivers clear guidance on how to pass bicyclists safely: give them at least 3 feet! Twenty other states and the District of Columbia have already enacted minimum passing distances to help protect bicyclists. Your donation will help us educate state lawmakers and the governor about why enacting Senate Bill 1464 will help save lives and make California’s roads safer for everyone.
