In 2014, I decided to give up the safety net of a regular income and corporate life to get out into the real world and make a difference. So come February 2015, I will volunteer in the poorest favela communities of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Your donation will make a difference to the lives of some of the most amazing, but underprivileged people in the world.

The 3 million plus inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro's favelas face daunting challenges every day. Those living in these under privileged communities in Rio de Janeiro face suffer massive unemployment issues and education is the shining light that can lift these communities and invididuals out of the poverty trap.

This is where Project Favela comes in. They are a grass roots volunteer organisation based in Rocinha favela, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. Founded by Scott Miles, they aim to change lives through education and opportunity by breaking through the social and economic barriers these communities face.

Project Favela will place me as a teacher to a class of kids between the ages of 3-17 teaching subjects ranging from English, Geography, Dance (!), and Math to put me to my best use for the community I am immersed in. It is my role to help inspire and motivate these kids to enjoy education and look forward to going to school so that they get a foot up in the educational system.

All money raised will go directly to project favela to support the incredible work they are doing and help them reach their 2017 goal of opening their own talented and gifted school for the favela community.

Thank you to everyone,

Kate
