The Cause:
Hello, Friends and Family! The purpose of this donation page is to help offset the expenses of my DCI tour fees. I am very blessed to have been offered a position to tour this summer with 10-time Drum Corps International World Champions, The Cadets, where I will have the opportunity to further develop my knowledge of synthetic instruments, musicianship, and performance. The Cadets are celebrating their 80th anniversary in 2014, and I am thrilled to have been selected to be a part of it. But I can't do it without your help!
Unfortunately, there are hefty expenses associated with this opportunity that cover everything from instruction and equipment to food and travel. My tour fees amount to $3,600 before I factor in the cost of airfare and pre-season rehearsals. Those of you with whom I have had the privilege of developing strong personal relationships over the years know that asking for donations is out of my typical character, but on this rare occasion I am looking for your generous support to help me with this special opportunity. Any donation, whether $1, $100, or even posting this link on your respective social outlet is hugely appreciated, and I'll be delivering updates throughout my journey to those of you kind enough to invest in my future.
Drum Corps Values:
"At the heart of the drum corps experience is a set of values - dedication, discipline, commitment and achievement through teamwork - that enhances the student's life. Young people soon discover that dedication and hard work enable them to achieve tremendous success. Success, in turn promotes confidence in their abilities. Students learn and improve valuable personal skills like teamwork, time management and problem solving. Members of all DCI-affiliated corps are challenged to personally accept a new sense of discipline and responsibility. Above all, one of the key things drum corps participants learn is simply stated, but complex to convey - how to get things done.
While a substantial number of Drum Corps International alums are music and performing arts educators and professional performers, some are doctors, lawyers, business professionals, entrepreneurs and leaders in their chosen fields and in their communities. Regardless of the life path the participant expects to follow, the Drum Corps International experience enhances the likelihood of success." - dci.org
My Musical Career:
My musical pursuits began when I sat down to my first piano lesson shortly after fifth grade. While I had been singing in children's choirs since before I can recollect, the point in which my passion for music was sparked is when I was first introduced to musical instruments. Shortly after taking on the piano, I began playing the clarinet, guitar, percussion, and saxophone before diving head first into the world of synthesizers and virtual instruments. It is here that I began using my new skills to arrange and compose for personal projects and later for small films.
During my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to perform and compete with the World Class WGI ensemble, INFINITY Percussion, where I learned more about synthesizers and music software than I realized was possible. The people I've met and am continuing to meet through the ensemble have become invaluable connections for me, and I wouldn't trade the experiences I've had for anything. Through this organization I confirmed that one day I want to be scoring for films and other media professionally, and I believe my time at The Cadets is the next big step toward that goal.
Currently, I study music composition, business management, and piano performance at Valencia College in Orlando, deliver instruction in percussion and visual movement as a staff member at Winter Springs High School, give private music lessons, and participate in my second season of INFINITY.
Summary:
It is an honor to have the opportunity to further develop my musicianship, performance, and teaching ability, but I look forward most of all to the networking opportunities available that open doors I never knew stood before me. I greatly appreciate any support you may feel compelled to offer as well as your interest in my life and aspirations. Please know that your investment plays a direct role in shaping my future.
Thank You,
Collin Hill
